Paul Savereide brings a rare combination of scientific expertise and legal experience to his intellectual property practice. Holding both a Juris Doctor and a Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from the University of Minnesota (1991), Paul has spent his career helping clients protect and advance innovations across diverse industries.
Paul began his legal career at Dorsey & Whitney in Minneapolis, where he worked alongside Jim Patterson. He then moved to the Bay Area to join Chiron Corporation, managing a large patent portfolio and negotiating joint development and licensing agreements. Returning to Minneapolis, he spent five years in Cargill Inc.’s Law Department, overseeing patent portfolios for multiple businesses and handling complex licensing and joint development matters.
Paul subsequently served at Patterson Thuente Skaar & Christensen, where he conducted patent prosecution and negotiated settlement and licensing agreements. He also gained experience at Viksnins Harris & Padys, focusing on small molecule patent prosecution, and spent ten years as Senior Associate General Counsel at the University of Minnesota’s Office of the General Counsel. Immediately prior to rejoining Patterson Thuente, he was Senior Counsel at Quarles & Brady, conducting patent prosecution and settlement negotiations.
Throughout his career, Paul has combined his deep technical knowledge in cell and developmental biology with extensive legal experience in patent prosecution, licensing, and strategic portfolio management. His well-rounded expertise allows him to provide clients with practical, actionable guidance to protect and advance their innovations.
“I aim to leverage both my scientific and legal experience to help clients navigate the complexities of intellectual property and maximize the value of their innovations.”
