Docket Specialist

Patterson Thuente IP is hiring a Docketing Specialist, whose role will focus on handling patent matters in the firm’s Intellectual Property group, including specifically docketing, correspondence distribution, file transfers, file audits; and generating specific docketing reports.

Essential Functions

  • Docket incoming patent-related communications received from the USPTO, patent offices worldwide, non-U.S. agents, and clients, and routing said communications to the appropriate attorney and/or paralegal for action
  • Monitor and de-docket all out-going patent-related communications that are directed to the USPTO, WIPO, and foreign patent offices
  • Monitor all due dates to ensure deadlines are timely met
  • Maintain the integrity of the Intellectual Property database
  • Audit/review of incoming files and entering of transferred-in cases into CPI database
    • Update database for transferred-out cases, and facilitate communication with Records department
    • Assist with generating specific reports through CPI database as requested by attorneys and paralegals
    • Process and distribution of communications
  • All other docketing-related projects as directed by the Docketing Lead

  • Advanced knowledge of practice area rules and procedures and the ability to anticipate actions
  • Collaborate in an effective and mature manor with attorneys, clients, co-workers, and administrators
  • Ability to be a proactive, self-starter, who understands the details within a much larger context
  • Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities; ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple, detailed tasks
  • Ability to plan, organize and carry out multiple related activities
  • Detail-oriented with and the ability to follow up and follow through
  • Must possess the ability to work independently as well as a team player in a fast-paced environment

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED; AA preferred

Communication Skills Required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills essential to communicate and follow instructions effectively to
  • provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Minimum of three (3) years of annuity, patent, or docketing experience
  • AA, paralegal certificate, or college degree preferred
