Patterson Thuente IP has elevated patent attorney Daniel Bruzzone to the position of Partner, recognizing his indispensable grasp of new technologies, dedication to client service, and status as an emerging leader within the firm.
Bruzzone works with some of the firm’s largest clients, as well as the smallest. He prosecutes patents and helps develop strategy for a highly regulated, multi-national consumer products company, based in London, UK, and at the same time fights online copycats for a small family owned enterprise in Minnesota. Other facets of his practice include securing IP protections internationally, preparing patentability and invalidity opinions, and supporting the firm’s litigation team in defense and enforcement cases.
Out of college, Bruzzone spent six years in product development for 3M and was fortunate to work in the company’s then emerging solar and photovoltaics division. “My background in industry adds an important layer of experience to my work as a lawyer,” said Bruzzone. “It helps me understand the clients’ innovation processes, as well as the underlying technology.” Bruzzone’s technology exposure has now broadened to include aerospace, atomic force microscopy, consumer products, optical systems, software-implemented inventions, and more.
Bruzzone’s career as a patent attorney has led him to develop an affinity for assisting inventors and entrepreneurs. His efforts in this arena include regular speaking appearances at Twin Cities Startup Week events and developing resource materials for inventors. He also dedicates at least 50 hours per year (and typically much more) to providing pro bono legal assistance to inventors. Bruzzone has represented some of the most successful entrepreneurs to come through the LegalCORPS Inventor Assistance Program. Two in particular have gone on to launch businesses based on their acquired patent protections.
