Case Study: Cardiac Science Corp
At the heart of saving lives—this is the motto of our long-time client, Cardiac Science Corporation. Now a subsidiary of a global medical device conglomerate, the company had humble beginnings as the developer of the first generation of automated external defibrillators.
As an innovator and leader in the highly competitive space of cardiac technology, the company has relied on intellectual property to build defensive barriers around it’s technology. Over the past 19 years, we have assisted Cardiac Science with the building of a strong patent portfolio and establishing solid fences around their core patents.
We fought a David vs. Goliath fight on their behalf against one of the world’s largest medical technology companies. In fact, our litigation team has represented the company in battles with most of its competitors, all of which were resolved in Cardiac’s favor. Most recently, the firm successfully represented Cardiac Science in a breach of contract case that resulted in a jury awarding the company $23 million in unpaid royalties. This was a significant win for Cardiac Science and cemented the company’s commitment to protecting its innovation.
