Jim Rieke, partner at Patterson Thuente IP
Jim Rieke is a partner with Patterson Thuente IP, with an intellectual property law practice focusing on patent preparation, prosecution, and strategic IP portfolio management. Jim counsels clients on best practices for developing strong patents and valuable IP assets domestically and internationally. Jim regularly conducts patentability, freedom-to-operate, product clearance, due diligence, infringement, and invalidity analyses on clients’ behalf. In addition to his typical practice areas, Jim has developed significant expertise in various niche areas of IP law including: design patents; patent term adjustment awards; and IP licensing. The focus of his technical expertise is largely in medical devices and mechanical technologies.

Professional Experience
Before pursuing a career in law, Jim was a design engineer for one of the world’s leading telecommunications companies. His work involved designing telecommunications equipment, including connectivity solutions, as well as improving existing communications products.
