Jim Rieke, partner at Patterson Thuente IP
Jim Rieke is a partner with Patterson Thuente IP, with an intellectual property law practice focusing on patent prosecution, and strategic IP portfolio management. Jim counsels clients on best practices for developing strong patents and valuable IP assets domestically and internationally. He is a skilled legal practitioner with a background in mechanical and medical technologies.
 
Jim maintains a thriving design patent practice, in which he works with the firm's large-portfolio clients to develop and execute design patent strategies. From graphical user interfaces to consumer-focused products, Jim's knowledge of design patent strategies provides clients a valuable layer of protection against infringement. Jim regularly conducts patentability, freedom-to-operate, product clearance, due diligence, infringement, and invalidity analyses on clients’ behalf. He also has significant experience with IP licensing and patent term adjustment awards. 

Professional Experience
Before pursuing a career in law, Jim was a design engineer for one of the world’s leading telecommunications companies. His work involved designing telecommunications equipment, including connectivity solutions, as well as improving existing communications products.
