Tye Biasco

Partner – Patent & Trademark Attorney, IP Litigation

Tye Biasco is a partner with Patterson Thuente IP who works with clients to develop patent and trademark protection and enforcement strategies, striving to add value to their IP portfolios. His patent prosecution work focuses mainly on mechanical and medical device technologies. Tye also assists the firm’s litigation team with patent and trademark infringement issues, trade dress matters and domain name disputes. Tye is filing correspondent on more than 1,500 US and non-US trademark and service mark registrations. He has also drafted and negotiated numerous intellectual property licensing agreements.
Professional Experience
With thirteen years of experience as a professional civil engineer, Tye’s practice is rooted in solid technical knowledge and real-world experience. Prior to joining the firm, he worked for the city of Los Angeles and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as well as private environmental consulting firms in Pittsburgh and Minneapolis. Tye has extensive experience in water and wastewater treatment, as well as solid waste handling and disposal.
Case Studies 
  • Successfully defended clients in several cancellation and opposition matters
  • Negotiated several coexistence agreements with client competitors to avoid litigation
  • Represented a manufacturer of high-speed data storage testing solutions against multiple infringers—case settled with seven-figure payments, redesigns of infringing products and no licenses
  • Our client, a manufacturer of automatic external defibrillators (AED) was up against multiple industry infringers—case settled upon successful negotiation of licenses to some of the technology at issue
  • A competitor of our medical device client was using our client’s registered trademarks—settled trademark claims with consent decree enjoining competitor from using client’s trademarks
  • Represented an individual inventor in a licensing dispute related to the inventor’s board game—case settled with client retaining the rights to act as a separate marketer of the game and no payments made to the plaintiff licensee
  • Represented a roof venting products manufacturer—case settled with redesign of infringing product and no licenses granted
