Michael P. Gates

Michael Gates is an associate with Patterson Thuente and his practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution in the mechanical, automotive and medical device industries, as well as IP portfolio management. He also represents clients in the entertainment industry. Professional Experience Before joining the firm, Michael was a law clerk at a general practice firm and spent four years as a tech aide in 3M’s Automotive Aftermarket Division Tech Service. In addition to assisting in the development of a revolutionary paint finishing system, he handled development testing for new products and quality assurance on existing products. Michael is knowledgeable in most aspects of automotive and vehicle technologies. In fact, he was heavily involved for three years in an annual Society of Automotive Engineers collegiate design competition, spending one year as the team’s project manager. |  |
